La Academia Británica de las Artes Cinematográficas y Televisivas (BAFTA) ha anunciado sus nominaciones que serán entregadas en una ceremonia virtual que se realizará el 31 de julio próximo con la conducción del actor cómico británico, Richard Ayoade. La gala, que se emitirá por la cadena BBC, estaba originalmente programada para la primavera pero dado a la pandemia del Covid-19, los organizadores han reprogramado su fecha.

Chernobyl, la serie producida por Sky junto con HBO, que recrea el desastre nuclear de 1987, lidera este año las nominaciones a los galardones británicos de la televisión, con 14 nominaciones, tres en categorías principales y otras 11 en secciones técnicas. Desde su estreno en EEUU el 6 de mayo de 2019 y en el Reino Unido el 7 de mayo de 2019, la miniserie de cinco capítulos ha sido un total éxito de audiencias y en reconocimientos en las principales premiaciones.

Siguen en nominaciones The Crown de Netflix con siete candidaturas; el thriller Giri/Haji, y Fleabag, de la BBC y Amazon, con seis.

Dentro de la edición de este año, Dark Materials y The Virtues, han sido nominadas en cinco categorías.

Tres nominaciones poseen la actriz y escritora británica, Phoebe Mary Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), y el cómico y guionista (Stath Lets Flats) Jamie Demetriou.

Las sorpresas de este año, destacan la ausencia de nominación para Andrew Scott (Fleabag) y de Olivia Colma (The Queen).
